Who We Are

The Suffolk Literacy Council was founded in 1987 by a task force of concerned citizens to address the problem of illiteracy in Suffolk.

Our Mission

To increase adult literacy within the Suffolk community by connecting individuals to resources that will promote lifelong learning.

Our Vision

A Suffolk community where all adults are literate and perform at their highest potential.

Major Goals

  • To provide free one-on-one tutoring for non-reading adults and those with limited reading skills;
  • To help non-English readers/speakers to become English readers and speakers;
  • To provide tutoring for adults needing basic math skills;
  • To provide training and support for volunteer tutors; and
  • To promote individual literacy.
